Project Management Fundamentals with CAPM® Prep is a structured learning pathway designed to build foundational project management knowledge and skills while preparing participants to meet the educational requirements for the CAPM® certification exam. The program supports individual career development and can also be deployed by colleges, universities, continuing and adult education programs, workforce organizations, employers, and public-sector organizations as part of broader professional and workforce development initiatives.

BAG’s structured curriculum can be delivered within semester-based academic environments or through continuing education, adult education, workforce development, and professional development programming. Delivery can be aligned with institutional schedules and cohort needs while maintaining a consistent curriculum, learning progression, and participant experience.

Project Management Fundamentals with CAPM® Prep combines foundational project management education with structured preparation for the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® certification exam. Participants build practical knowledge applicable to project and project-support roles while developing the project management education and exam-preparation foundation needed to pursue CAPM® certification through the Project Management Institute (PMI)®.

The curriculum develops knowledge across the four areas represented in the current CAPM® Exam Content Outline: Project Management Fundamentals and Core Concepts; Predictive, Plan-Based Methodologies; Agile Frameworks/Methodologies; and Business Analysis Frameworks. Participants examine project life cycles, planning, roles and responsibilities, scope, schedule, cost, quality, risk, resources, stakeholder engagement, project controls, adaptive ways of working, requirements, product roadmaps, and the relationship between project delivery and business needs.

Learning emphasizes more than terminology. Participants practice interpreting project situations, selecting appropriate approaches and tools, working with project artifacts, evaluating requirements and stakeholder needs, and applying project management concepts to realistic scenarios. This creates a structured progression from foundational understanding to CAPM® exam preparation while building capabilities that can transfer into project environments.

What You Will Learn:

Build a working foundation in project management principles, terminology, project life cycles, roles and responsibilities, planning, governance, ethics, and project delivery.
Apply core project management practices across scope, schedule, cost, quality, resources, communications, risk, procurement, stakeholder engagement, project controls, and project closure.
Understand predictive, plan-based approaches, including work breakdown structures, critical path concepts, schedule and cost variance, project artifacts, and integrated planning and control.
Understand agile and adaptive approaches, including iterative planning, prioritization, adaptive project tracking, project artifacts, and frameworks and methods such as Scrum and Kanban.
Develop practical business analysis capabilities, including stakeholder communication, requirements gathering, user stories and use cases, requirements traceability and product backlogs, product roadmaps, acceptance criteria, and requirements validation.
Distinguish when predictive and adaptive approaches are appropriate and evaluate how project context, organizational structure, and delivery needs influence the approach selected.
Apply project management knowledge to realistic situations involving risks, issues, assumptions, constraints, stakeholders, requirements, communications, and project decision-making.
Build familiarity with the current CAPM® Exam Content Outline and certification process while strengthening the knowledge and application skills represented across its four exam domains.

Pre-requisites:

There are no pre-requisites.

Certification Requirements:

CAPM® certification is administered by the Project Management Institute (PMI)®. Participants are responsible for meeting PMI’s applicable eligibility requirements, completing the certification application process, and successfully completing the CAPM® examination.

CAPM® Certification:
PMI currently requires a secondary degree (high school diploma, GED, or global equivalent) and at least 23 hours of project management education completed before the examination.

This pathway provides the project management education required to satisfy the current 23-hour CAPM® education requirement.

Certification eligibility and examination requirements are established by PMI and are subject to change. Participants should verify current requirements directly with PMI before applying for the examination.
