CAPM® Examination Prep – How to Prepare & Pass the Test

Designed for emerging project professionals, project team members, career changers, and professionals seeking a stronger project management foundation, this live instructor-led course prepares participants for the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® examination while developing practical skills applicable across contemporary project environments.

Instruction is structured around the four domains of PMI’s current CAPM® Examination Content Outline: Project Management Fundamentals and Core Concepts (36%), Predictive, Plan-Based Methodologies (17%), Agile Frameworks/Methodologies (20%), and Business Analysis Frameworks (27%). Participants learn not only the concepts represented within each domain, but how to interpret project situations, distinguish between approaches, apply project management tools and techniques, and make informed decisions in scenario-based contexts.

The course develops practical knowledge across project life cycles, planning, scope, schedule, cost, quality, risk, stakeholder engagement, communications, team collaboration, and project controls. Participants work with predictive concepts such as work breakdown structures, critical path, schedule and cost variance, while also developing competency in adaptive approaches including iteration planning, adaptive tracking, project artifacts, prioritization, Scrum, Kanban, XP, and other adaptive methodologies.

Because business analysis represents 27% of the CAPM® examination, the course also develops competency in stakeholder roles and communication, requirements elicitation, user stories and use cases, requirements traceability, product backlogs and roadmaps, acceptance criteria, and validating requirements through product delivery.

Exam preparation is integrated throughout the course through knowledge checks, applied scenarios, review activities, practice questions, and study strategies designed to help participants translate knowledge into examination performance. Preparation also addresses the CAPM® examination experience, including multiple-choice, drag-and-drop, hot-spot, and scenario-based visual question formats.

PMI currently requires CAPM® candidates to hold a secondary degree, such as a high school diploma, GED, or global equivalent, and complete at least 23 hours of project management education before the examination. This course provides the project management education necessary to support that requirement. A BAG Certificate of Completion will be issued upon successful completion of the course and applicable attendance requirements.

The CAPM® certification examination fee is not included in course tuition. The CAPM® application process, examination structure, certification pathway, and preparation strategy are addressed during the course.

Participants will develop the knowledge and applied understanding needed to navigate the full breadth of the CAPM® examination and contribute effectively within contemporary project environments.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT FUNDAMENTALS & CORE CONCEPTS

Build a working understanding of project, program, and portfolio distinctions; project versus operational work; predictive and adaptive life cycles; project roles and responsibilities; planning considerations; risks, issues, assumptions, and constraints; stakeholder and risk registers; project initiation, benefits, closure, and transition; leadership, emotional intelligence, and collaborative problem solving.

PREDICTIVE, PLAN-BASED METHODOLOGIES

Understand when predictive approaches are appropriate and how projects are planned, structured, monitored, and controlled. Participants work with process activities, work breakdown structures (WBS), work packages, critical path concepts, schedule and cost variance, quality and integration planning, project artifacts, and controls used within predictive environments.

AGILE FRAMEWORKS & METHODOLOGIES

Develop practical understanding of adaptive approaches and when they are appropriate; iteration planning and tracking; adaptive project artifacts; task prioritization; and the characteristics of methodologies and frameworks such as Scrum, Kanban, Extreme Programming (XP), and SAFe®. Participants also examine how predictive and adaptive approaches differ and how project work can move between the two.

BUSINESS ANALYSIS FRAMEWORKS

Develop competency in stakeholder roles and communication, requirements elicitation, user stories and use cases, requirements traceability, product backlogs and roadmaps, acceptance criteria, and requirements validation. Participants examine how business analysis supports both predictive and adaptive environments and how requirements move from stakeholder need through product delivery.

EXAM APPLICATION & READINESS

Apply course knowledge through scenarios, knowledge checks, review activities, and practice questions that reinforce the reasoning required across the CAPM® domains. Participants develop familiarity with the examination experience and practice interpreting information, selecting appropriate approaches, applying project management concepts, and responding to scenario-based questions.

Instruction connects PMI® concepts to realistic project scenarios, enabling participants to examine how scope, schedule, risk, stakeholders, requirements, team dynamics, and delivery decisions interact in practice. Instructors use practical tools, case-based discussion, and real-world insights to help participants move beyond memorizing terminology to understanding why concepts apply, how project decisions are made, and how those decisions influence project outcomes.

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

• Distinguish among projects, programs, portfolios, and operations and determine when predictive, adaptive, or hybrid approaches are appropriate for different project environments.
• Interpret and apply core project management concepts involving project life cycles, organizational structures, roles and responsibilities, planning, stakeholder engagement, risk, issues, assumptions, constraints, and project delivery.
• Apply predictive planning and control techniques, including work breakdown structures (WBS), work packages, critical path concepts, schedule and cost variance, quality planning, integration activities, and project controls.
• Evaluate adaptive project environments and apply concepts involving iteration planning, adaptive tracking, prioritization, project artifacts, and frameworks and methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, Extreme Programming (XP), and SAFe®.
• Differentiate predictive and adaptive approaches and determine how project activities, controls, roles, and delivery practices change based on the selected approach.
• Apply business analysis practices to identify stakeholder needs, elicit and document requirements, develop user stories and use cases, maintain traceability, and work with product backlogs and roadmaps.
• Evaluate requirements and deliverables using acceptance criteria, requirements validation, and readiness-for-delivery considerations.
• Analyze project scenarios and make informed decisions involving scope, schedule, cost, quality, risk, communications, stakeholders, team dynamics, and requirements.
• Use collaborative problem-solving, leadership, and emotional-intelligence concepts to evaluate team and stakeholder situations within project environments.
• Apply CAPM® exam-preparation strategies to interpret questions, identify relevant information, evaluate possible responses, and select answers supported by project management principles and the context presented.

1. Medium: This class will be taught via Zoom. Zoom has established a list of Global Access Numbers which will be provided to students upon registration. Voice Over IP (VOIP) is also available. Baskin Advisory Group, LLC (known hereafter as BAG, LLC) is not responsible for telephone toll or data charges that may be incurred by participants while connected to web or phone conferencing services.

2. Electronic Communications: BAG will communicate with participants electronically, via email from connect@baskinadvisorygroup.com. To ensure receipt of communications related, participants are responsible for adding the email domain of BAG, LLC to its list of safe senders and for inspecting spam folders to retrieve communications which may be sent by BAG, LLC.

3. Training Materials: All training materials ship from the United States. For international shipments, buyer is responsible for import fees and duties which may be levied by the country of destination at the time of receipt. BAG, LLC will transmit shipping address, electronically to the shipper, exactly as entered on the customer registration form. BAG, LLC cannot ship packages to a P. O. Box. Customer is responsible for providing a physical shippping address, at the time of registration, which is valid and deliverable. Customer accepts responsibility for taking delivery of packages at the address provided by the customer at the time of registration. Customer assumes responsibility for expenses related to training materials that must be replaced or reshipped due to incorrect or undeliverable shipping address provided by the customer at the time of registration. BAG, LLC will notify participant via email when package ships, and upon receipt of delivery notification from shipper. Customer assumes full responsibility for expenses related to training materials that must be replaced or reshipped if training materials are not reported as missing, or undeliverable by the customer and/or participant within three (3) business days of electronic delivery notification sent by BAG, LLC to customer.

4. Cancellations/Refunds: Requests for cancellations, refunds, transfers, and substitutions, must be submitted via email to connect@baskinadvisorygroup.com. Cancellation requests received by BAG, LLC within 30 calendar days from date of purchase AND not after 30 calendar days prior to the start date of the class for which the participant/customer was originally registered, will receive a full refund, minus the cost of any training materials that have already been shipped or otherwise provided to the participant. Cancellation requests received greater than 30 days after date of purchase OR after 30 days prior to the start date of the class for which the participant/customer was originally registered are non-refundable.

5. Transfers: If space is available, BAG, LLC is happy to accommodate requests to transfer students between classes of the same type. In the event the training materials that are required for the originally scheduled class becomes obsolete, then a student/customer may purchase new training materials from BAG, LLC which are compatible with the new class. BAG, LLC does NOT accept returns, issue refunds or exchanges for obsolete training materials, or for training materials which have been shipped to the student/customer.

6. Substitutions: BAG, LLC is pleased to accommodate requests to subsitute the registration of one student for the registration of another student, in the same class. Training materials are personalized and licensed to the individual student. Therefore, training materials are non-transferable. Upon substitution, a fee of $250 will be assessed to the buyer to cover the cost of issuing new training materials to the new student.
